A body lift is a powerful procedure that trims away excess skin and elevates drooping tissue to improve your contour.
Your Figure – Your Terms
A body lift is a completely customizable procedure. Our plastic surgeons can tailor the surgery to target the precise features that you’d like toned and tightened.
Some of the most common treatment areas include:
- Abdomen – Tighten the abdomen and/or the flanks and lower back area
- Buttocks – Enhance a low, flat or unevenly shaped backside
- Groin – Elevate a groin that sags into the inner thigh
- Thigh – Improve the inner, outer, or posterior thigh, or the thigh’s circumference
The ideal body lift candidate struggles with drooping, excess skin. Typically, this unwanted tissue is the result of multiple pregnancies or substantial weight loss due to bariatric surgery.
To Be Considered an Ideal Candidate You Should
- Have tried unsuccessfully to improve your body contour with diet and exercise
- Be committed to remaining at a stable weight, as any future fluctuations will affect your results
- Be in good general health and able to recover optimally from a surgical procedure
- Avoid smoking or drinking an excessive amount of alcohol
- Have realistic expectations for what a body lift can accomplish
If you want to see a significant change in your body after weight loss or multiple pregnancies, our comprehensive body lift may be right for you. During your initial consultation at our office, we can help you determine if this procedure is in your best interest.
Body lifts are performed under general anesthesia, which means you will be asleep and completely comfortable throughout the experience. From there, the specifics will vary depending on the treatment area.
Lower Body Lift/Belt Lipectomy
The lower body lift is a very popular option among our body lift patients. It removes excess skin, elevates the buttocks, and creates attractive contours throughout the lower body. The procedure involves an incision around the hips, across the lower abdomen and slightly down the inner thighs. All cuts will be carefully placed so that they can be easily hidden with underwear and clothing once you’ve healed.
Mid Body Lift/Torsoplasty
The mid body lift targets the abdominal region along with the features that are treated with a lower body lift, including the thighs, hips and buttocks. It requires a incision around the waist and lower abdomen, so that we can access the abdominal muscles, along with an incision midway down the inner thighs.
During a mid body lift, our Del Mar plastic surgeons will carefully tighten and reshape your abdominal muscles, remove excess fat and trim away drooping skin. The healing time is slightly longer than a lower body lift due to contouring of the abdominal muscles. In general, patients can expect to resume sedentary work within three to four weeks.
Total Body Lift
The total body lift delivers the most dramatic transformation. It’s ideal for our La Jolla clients who have severe skin laxity throughout their body that causes chafing, rashes and discomfort. The procedure tightens and elevates the breasts, arms, abdomen, hips, thighs and buttocks. As the most intensive option, it also requires the longest recovery period of about six weeks.
Once the healing process is complete, your body will appear firmer and smoother. Excess deposits of fat and drooping skin will have been removed,
and weakened underlying muscles will have been tightened.
