Dissatisfaction with your nose is one of the most common aesthetic problems people seek help for. Because of the defining role that your nose plays in shaping your face, a nose that feels out of place or makes you unhappy can affect your confidence. Rhinoplasty corrects almost any concerns you have about your nose so you can love your facial harmony.

What is Rhinoplasty?

While some people love their family’s unique nose shape or the way their nose suits their face, many others wish they could see something different in the mirror. Rhinoplasty or nose surgery works to correct aspects such as the width, size, or symmetry, while it can also correct functional issues like a deviated septum that affects your breathing.

How is Rhinoplasty Performed?

Nose surgery is performed in one of two ways, depending on the changes you hope to see. A closed rhinoplasty uses incisions hidden inside the nose, preventing any visible scar. However, it cannot provide the kinds of extensive changes that some people want. An open rhinoplasty uses a small incision between the nostrils at the base of your nose, allowing bigger adjustments.

How Long Does Rhinoplasty Take to Heal?

You will have some swelling, bruising, and soreness after your nose surgery, and you should expect to rest a lot for the first few days. Keeping your head elevated reduces these effects, which improve significantly within the first week.

You will have a follow-up appointment with Dr. Kouli the day after surgery, a few days later, and after a week. At your one-week visit, the splints supporting your nose will often be removed. If you are healing well, he may clear you to return to a low-activity job at that point.

More strenuous activities will need to wait several more weeks. Dr. Kouli and his team will review the timeline for adding these activities back into your schedule. Avoid any type of trauma to your nose. You can still have some minor swelling for several months, so your results will evolve over time.

Am I a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty may be recommended if you are unhappy with the appearance of your nose, your nose has been injured or have trouble breathing properly. You may be a good candidate for this procedure if:

  • You are 15 years of age or older
  • You have realistic expectations
  • You understand what to expect during your recovery
  • You are in good health

Dr. Kouli’s skill and aesthetic eye allow him to perform ethnic rhinoplasty, a procedure that helps people sculpt the nose they want while preserving and enhancing their natural ethnic features. Individuals considering rhinoplasty should find out if their surgeon has experience with this challenging and artistic form of the procedure.
