There are many ways to protect and maintain your facial skin health, but it is inevitable that it will lose some elasticity over time. Loose, sagging skin on the face and neck add years to your look. For a comprehensive resolution, a facelift produces exceptionally satisfying results when performed by our experienced plastic surgeon at Esthetica of San Diego – but we offer several non-surgical treatments for facial rejuvenation. Modern discoveries in aesthetics have led to the development of the PDO Thread Lift by Nova. We offer this exciting nonsurgical option for facial rejuvenation at our private clinic in San Diego.
WHAT IS A THREAD LIFT?
The term “PDO” refers to polydioxiane, a biodegradable material used to make sutures, that are then fully absorbed by the body. A thread lift uses threads made of this material to lift and tighten sagging skin. When introduced into the skin, these threads have several beneficial effects:
- Creates an instant lift to facial skin
- They promote cellular renewal, stimulating collagen production and improving elasticity
- Works to tighten and firm facial skin
With otoplasty, our plastic surgeons can artfully remodel and reposition your ears – creating a more natural shape that restores balance and proportion to your appearance.

These outstanding specialists are supported by a highly-trained staff that includes medical aestheticians, surgical nurses and anesthetists as well as a dietitian and a holistic health practitioner. Esthetica brings these rich resources to every case, treating you as the unique individual that you are, and designing customized treatments to restore, rejuvenate, and renew facial appearance.
HOW IS A THREAD LIFT DONE?
The PDO thread employed in this procedure is not used to “sew” skin. Rather, the thread is inserted into the skin in specific areas as the first step. To keep you comfortable during this fast and effective procedure, local anesthetic is applied to the skin before the process begins. When the threads are inserted, they serve to anchor the skin and to lift it upward. Any excess thread is trimmed; the thread that remains within your skin, producing the lift, is invisible to the eye. Different types of thread and varying techniques for insertion may be employed, based upon your specific facial skin condition and the level of rejuvenation needed.
WHAT IS THE RECOVERY FROM PDO THREAD LIFT LIKE?
A PDO thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure. Mild bruising and swelling may be present for a few days after treatment, and strenuous activity should be avoided during this period. You may experience a mild sensation of skin tightness for up to two weeks. In very rare cases a side effect in which the thread migrates and need to be removed occurs, but removal does not result in scarring or other concerns.
THE THREAD LIFT STORY
While the thread lift may not be as familiar to the general public as other cosmetic procedures, the treatment has been in use in some form since the 1990s. Recent innovations in the PDO thread lift technique bring truly remarkable improvements to facial appearance. At Esthetica of San Diego, our team of medical professionals stays ahead of the curve on the most recent advances in facial rejuvenation and offer this innovative facial renewal treatment to our patients.
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
You will notice a beautiful lifting effect immediately after treatment. Within a couple of weeks, the rejuvenating effects of the treatment improve even further. Over the next several months, your facial skin will become firmer and more supple due to the increase in production of collagen triggered by the threads.
HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS LAST?
The threads dissolve within nine months, but the results last many more months. A second thread lift within six to nine months after your first procedure can bring results that can last as long as three years.
WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A THREAD LIFT?
You are an especially good candidate for this procedure if you are just beginning to see the signs of aging in your cheeks, neck and brow. A thread lift is an excellent option for anyone who may not be ready to undergo a surgical procedure but want to have a younger facial appearance.
WHAT AREAS OF THE FACE CAN A THREAD LIFT IMPROVE?
Almost any area of the face can benefit from a thread lift, including:
- The jawline
- The neck
- Wrinkles around the mouth
- Laugh lines
- Wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet)
- Skin underneath the eyes
- The cheeks
